To me, DD is the most honorable award for the artists since I've first been here (without any memberships back then). I check it everyday, and I also suggest some to the CVs. But since the recent year, I found it little bit less than before. Hmm.. I mean, there's many normal and unoriginal artwork, feel like the CVs just randomly pick it to pass the day (in the fields I've known well, not other fields that I haven't study about). They're not even worthy.
And also giving DDs to artworks that already have thousands of favs and pageviews is really not neccessary. They also have like 4,5 or more DDs in their gallery. Without the shadow of a doubt, their work are fantastic, but why don't dA give those chances for underappreciated artists? They often have no voice in this community, and tend to desperately give up before someone could discover their talents!
Also giving a DD for artwork which submitted years ago (2006, 2007..), and that artist has dead or dropped his/her work, left dA... isn't that really nonsense?
I'm truly appreciated the CVs' delicated work. But if they cannot pick the best, please just skip the day. That's all.....
I usually look at them every day. It's nice to see, especially when very unknown artists get a feature. I prefer them to be extremely interesting. I want something to make me think, make me consider new things or consider old things in a new way. I like when a DD is a piece that you just know the artist put their heart and soul into.
I think of DD as being a great honor and regardless of taste and opinions of the merit of the inidividually selected pieces, the artist deserves the acclaim. It is not about something 'deserving' the feature, it is about the CV finding something to share with the community at large.
I may frown a little at a polar bear in the snow during a blizzard type of pictures, where I might not see the 'worthiness' of the image, or perhaps one that was droplets of water on a window that were out of focus and backlit, apparently by Paris, but unable to even see... I see the beauty of minimalism or abstractness, but sometimes, in the artist's gallery there may be something more representative of the artist's skill. I don't have to agree with DD's. What do I do when I don't agree? I skip it, I don't comment, I go look at something else.
The point is there was something about the picture that sparked it to be suggested in the first place. It appealed to someone who thought to share it. Then the CV agreed and shared it with all of DA. I have no argument there. If people think there are plenty of better artists or more deserving of the attention, then they ought to be suggesting them. And for those who feel something of their own they simply must share, some CV's take suggestions from the artist. I think it is a downer when the community spoils the day of someone who got a DD with negative opinions of the 'deservedness'.
