I never look at the pageviews. If I like the art and want to receive it to my inbox, I watch them, the end of story, no matter how little or how much they have pageviews. Since let's be honest for example the recent art thief got their pageviews trough the roof just because of the announcment that they had stolen art AND gotten 3 DDs fom the stolen art. So , for me pageviews mean nothing.
i look at deviants differently depending on page views. page views give some information. for instance they say: this person is popular. this person has a wide network. this person communicates with others. his/her style is liked by many deviants. this person does not care for popularity. etc... etc... depending on the person and his/her work.
page views are definitely an important factor at dA.
but i watch deviants absolutely independently of page views, simply out of instinct, because i like, what they do, out of personal curiosity, because there is a personal contact etc... i most like to watch deviants, if what they do touches me and has something to do with my own direction...
thank you for the link! it reminds me of my concern about money, fame, etc... getting in the way of Art. Art sometimes seems quite compromised. very hard work to get noticed (marketing!) for professional fine artists, lots of talk about auction money attained by paintings... and so on.
but right here at dA i get assured, how much passion there is in our many hearts. happy creations to you!
While I do glance at pageviews, I mainly only use them, if in anyway, to decide to watch the deviant with the fewer pageviews. I feel that if someone has a ton of pageviews and watchers, he or she has people to help them grow. Someone with fewer pageviews may only get a comment sporadically and not feel as appreciated on deviantart. As someone who has fewer pageviews myself, I know I do appreciate every comment and watchers are golden to me. It encourages me to keep posting the photos I do take. I in no way would just watch someone just because they had a higher amount of pageviews. I hope that helps.
Actually, I'm the same way. If they have a TON of page views, I REALLY have to like their stuff in order to watch them. Not saying that I lower my standard either...(don't wanna give that impression )
Hmm, I'll put it this way: Say that if deviant A has 5000 page views and deviant B has 250,000 page views. Both have been deviants for 1 year. I like both of their works a lot, but they both do the same style and are equally talented! I don't want to watch both because my inbox tends to fill quickly. Deviant A get the watch and the comments/faves that go with it because I feel they need the support more.
That's how I feel as well. It bugs me when people only watch deviants because they have a ton of pageviews. What I find really cool though is when I watch someone with a high quality to their artwork with fewer pageviews initially, and as their artwork gets seen by more people, they earn more watchers and views. I just smile and think to myself "I knew them before they were popular."
