New Critique Group for Comics and CartoonsHi all!
I just created this new group for critiques specifically in the Cartoons & Comics gallery.
:iconcritoons:
I created the group because I failing my personal commitment to write 2 critiques each month... the reason is that it was difficult for me to find the kind of art I wanted to critique, since I usually don't critique outside of the Cartoons & Comics gallery and because DA's critiqueable page won't let me filter down to that gallery. So this group gives me a place where I can go to find just C&C deviations from artists who'd like some critique.
For now both membership applications and deviations are automatically approved. We'll change that later if necessary, we're just trying to get the group seeded and going!
You don't have to be a premium member to sign up - we can critique in comments!
We recommend (though not required) that each member write 2 critiques per month. It's a small enough number that i
THE GROUP WILL OPEN!
Hello!
I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season and are enjoying, perhaps, the last few days of your break. I myself begin work again on the 9th. But for now I'm enjoying the company of my friends and sometimes the company of my family haha!
I've been on the fence about opening this group because in the past journals some felt waiting for more members would be better, but as it's been 5 months since this group was founded, I think we've all waited enough. So I decided today to set the official open date.
No matter how many people join, regardless if it's all 18 members or not, this group will open. I have no maximum on how many can join and nobody will be turned away. However, I do ask that you put work into your bio and your character drawing. A character sheet with no effort and a bare bio is the only way your application can be denied. If that does happen, you are encouraged to edit your applica
dA Wishing WellThere once was a well who had a great wish... to be the biggest well that ever did exist. But so tiny was he that he never was seen until some kind soul heard his plea. A penny a day and a hug and a wave, this tiny little well did grow up in a huge way! The well's wish was granted and so happy was he that he declared he would forever grant your wishes at top speed!
:icondawishingwell:
#dAWishingWell is a NEW group here on deviantART focused on granting a series of wishes each month to its group members! Members can leave a single wish on The Wishlist, and a few times a month, the wishing well will randomly select a few good deviants to have their wishes come true! Even our affiliate groups can make wishes for their groups!
Membership couldn't be easier! Just click JOIN! Click... Wish... Receive!
Affiliation is super easy too! Just click and announce us to your members so they can benefit too!

Do you have some spare time to help us out?^3wyl here. I, on behalf of #dAseniors, am calling for any potential successors to #dAseniors as 'The Mou'. If you are interested at all, please read the rest of this blog and send us a note once you've done so!

I have actually already left the group and transferred ownership to `TickedOffTeam, which is the 'place holder' for 'The Mou' at the moment. Reason why is that if there are no successors, then things will still be running as smoothly here as ever, but TOT will be getting a shake-up.
We would like a senior to oversee the activities of this group, and help push things forward such as contests, chat events, etc. The Weekly Hunt and everything else are already sorted out, but it's just the big things that need a firm(er) guide.
Ideally, that senior would also take over The Senior 'Stache over at `TickedOffTeam. You will be getting help if you do decide

52 Week Six Word Story Challenge! - In Conclusion#SixWordStories has teamed up with #theWrittenRevolution to present to the literature community a project that will question what it really means to be a writer.
We have reached both the end of the project and the year after 52 intense weeks of 52 challenges that we hope have been effective in spurring on writers' creativity and imagination with the creation of these six word stories.
For the last and final time, this is what the community has come up with for last week's six word story challenge:
Write a six word story about writing a six word story. Describe to us how it has been this year!

52 Week Challenge (final feature)Last year, #theWrittenRevolution and #SixWordStories joined together to offer writers a unique challenge: writing a six word story complying with the prompt given by #SixWordStories every week.
The challenge itself is much more than it might have seemed during the first weeks; putting together a story, using such a limited amount of words is as intriguing at first as it's difficult when actually working on it. And we can say that many of the prompts were definitely challenging!
It's been interesting to see each different interpretation for the prompts and the participation being higher or lower depending on the nature of the prompt, too. Each was something we'd have never thought about, and that reminded us how writing is totally subjective and amazing – from the same hat, each participant took out a different animal, like any skilled magician should be able to.
We can say little apart from asking you to congratulate all the participants and their effor

2011 As Seen Through Art2011 was full of emotional events the world around, and our community responded at unprecedented levels. From natural disasters to historical celebrations, entertainment milestones to tearful goodbyes, our community spoke out like no other community can — artistically, creatively, and emotionally. In many ways, last year marked the final chapter of a few eras, opening the door to new beginnings for 2012. Let's take a look...

How Malware Works Via Banner Ads
As many deviants know, deviantART has been working hard to combat malicious banner ads that infiltrate
our advertising network, and we've previously addressed this issue in
April 2011
and August 2011.
In our ongoing effort to keep the deviantART community safe, we wanted to share the following
USA Today-produced
video that explains how malicious ads inundate the Web.

Let me start with a side note today - I'd planned two articles yesterday about dA suggestions, but due to a small bug I couldn't get them to work. I'll either have to wait for the bug to be fixed or to think of a way to restructure them, and I will not get the chance to do that this week
So those articles will come later, after Project Educate week has ended. However, following my own Project Educate week, ^Beccalicious will hold a Project Educate week regarding Critique - I may just chip in there and write something about critiquing dA Related art

JANUARY HOLIDAYS, EVENTS AND AWARENESS 2012
Well, it is leap year! So that can mean only one thing to those living in the US and its territories; there will be a presidential election later this year. Every leap year is the election then the following January the president-elect is then sworn into office during the Inauguration on the third Sunday of the month. It also means this is an Olympic year. It used to be both the summer and winter Olympics were held in the same year, always a leap year, but now they are every two-years alternating between summer and winter athletics. This year London, England will be host to the Summer Olympics July 27, 2012 through August 12, 2012. My eyes will be glued to the TV

Last year's round of Project Educate hit dA Related as well! This year, rather than reinventing the wheel and simply rephrasing all that was said last time, I will collect them here so that we can focus on some new subjects for the rest of the week. Even outside Project Educate, former volunteers for this gallery such as `ginkgografix have left us many useful articles that can still be used today. Before going into the categories of dA Related, let's have a look at some articles that apply to all of the category;

deviantART Related - is it ART?
This is a common question from the Community, sometimes phrased as that question, sometimes phrased as a blunt opinion! This article, written for Project Educate - dA Related, aims to shed a light on this topic.
And it's not gonna be brief
Because, no one can simply answer this for other people. This journal will not attempt to do that. Instead I have tried to gather a variety of opinions on this subject, so you can read several views and decide for yourself!
Some of the views below were shared with me through note, others in comments to the poll here. Feel free to chip in there too!
there's also more responses left to be enjoyed there - I only selected some from the comments there to pick as many
The Art of Code
As written by `ginkgografix in the Guide to the deviantART Related Gallery, The browser scripts and extensions category is for scripts that add new functions to (or modify current functions of) deviantART.com. Commonly these scripts are installed through Greasemonkey, but some are designed to install through web browsers such as Mozilla Firefox. Keep in mind that this category is for functioning scripts, not just ideas for scripts.
This is perhaps one of the most resourceful types of dA Related deviations
But, how do you create these? In order to find out, I interviewed a couple of creators of scripts, user styles and apps.
Please tell me briefly about yourself and
