The deviantART Suggestions gallery is the place where we the deviants speak our minds on what should be done to improve and evolve the deviantART website. Because it's a small gallery it often feels like the misplaced deviations, or even the deviant thefts, overwhelm what the gallery is intended for. Remember, as with any gallery, we can help keep it clean by using the handy report feature found at the right hand side of every deviation, but please remember the deviantART Etiquette when reporting! Hello everyone :wave: I am a Deaf person and love photography, I also enjoy collecting many different mediums of artistic creations. Currently, I help to administrate 10 groups on deviantART and truly love helping the deviantART Community to stay positive and productive. :)

Epilepsy Awareness Day March 26th 2013The Purple Truth

March 26, known to the epileptic community as Purple Day, is a day to promote understanding and teach others the signs of epilepsy and seizures. As one of the most common neurological conditions in the world, directly affecting 65 million people globally, and with 1 out of 10 people having suffered a seizure in their lifetime, this condition has a real presence in our lives. What is epilepsy though?
Epilepsy is defined as a medical condition that produces seizures affecting a variety of mental and physical functions. Normal brain function is made possible by millions of tiny electrical charges passing between nerve cells in the brain and to all parts of the body. When someone has epilepsy, this normal pattern may be interrupted by intermittent bursts of electrical energy that are much more intense than usual.

A while back, we announced our partnership with Fotolia.com through the #StockProject group, where you can find hundreds of free stock images. We teamed up with Fotolia once again to create the deviantART Collection. 
A team of professional photo editors started filtering through images on deviantART looking for excellent photographs that would work on commercial websites, like Fotolia, that sell images for designers and art directors to use in magazines, advertisements and product packaging. January's Complaint Challenge - DDsIntroduction
This activity is part of my year-long project to address complaints from the dA community. January's complaint is Daily Deviations!
"I find that the DD system needs to be expanded. Why? Sadly, it has become the only major channel on this site for artists and writers to receive exposure, and the selection choices are limited. On my journal, =Flyvapnet wrote that '[i]t smacks of a good-old-boys system, wherein Deviations are considered for recognition only if they're suggested by those who have an in-crowd relationship with someone in the award-giving hierarchy'. There are great artists out there who don't have any exposure simply because they can't get DDs, and the selections are biased: for example, they almost never include parts of novels. Offering more artists this exposure would help DA with what
PE DD Week: Why did an icon get a DD?Why did an icon get a DD?
Daily deviations tend to be a controversial topic within the community and whether or not a DD is worthy of the feature is, as such, often discussed.
As a CV for Icons & Handhelds I often find it interesting to read these discussions, since that way I can see what the community expects of the features, but the recent negativity on the Icons & Handhelds DDs is something I would like to address, which is why I'm thankful I'm given this opportunity during the Daily Deviation PE-week. I will try to explain why I think icons and handhelds are worthy of the feature and why they may be dismissed just a bit too quickly.

Let's begin at the beginning.
When deviantART first started, it was a site that mainly geared towards customization. Be it wallpapers or icons, if you take a look at some of the first DDs. So how come there'
PE: Daily Deviations - The Myth and the LegendDaily Deviations, or DDs . . . for some deviants, receiving one is the epitome of awesomesauce in the deviantART world. For others, they are a nice way to show off the work of lesser-known artists. Still others treat them as a special way to bring attention to great art that exemplifies works being done by a particular gallery or community.
Perhaps because there are so many different ways of conceptualizing DDs, there are also many myths and misconceptions. I would like to address some of those myths by responding to the ones most frequently heard. Please note that these opinions are mine and reflect my experiences with the photomanipulation community, but perhaps they will be informative nevertheless.
Myth 1: DDs should always be perfect.
To many of us, the ideal Daily Deviation goes to an artist with amazing talent whose work draws you in and makes you think, "Wow, everyone needs to see this!" A DD should move you, inspire you, and provoke you to think, b

I almost never buy "extra" things, for me this includes items like points :points: from deviantART. However, that has changed as of today.

Earlier this year, =ToxicAlice92 announced a project
On my profile, in the top right, there's a donation pool. I want to spend the entire year raising up enough points to buy 50 Vertical Zip hoodies to donate to the nearest homeless shelter at the end of the year next year.
But that wasn't it!
UPDATE 2 - I also received a note from $Heidi earlier today (1.4.12) letting me know that deviantART would like to match my donations on their behalf!! That means when I reach my goal of 50, I will be receiving 50 more hoodies from deviantART for my cause, or 30 or 40, depending on how many I'm able to purchase at the time!!!

This project is absolutely wonderful, and I immediately donated. But I wanted to do more.

So, I worked with a number of deviants to make a sponsoring program...

I got a number of donors to pledge a certain number of points. With those points, I created a collection on my page.
If we collect the 5,000 points, the donors' points and the collected points will all be sent to =ToxicAlice92. A total of 10,000 points! :omg:
:star: By doing this instead of just donating independently we are going to be able to collect 2 times the amount of points and raise awareness for her project.

However, I also believe that art is an important part of any community event on deviantART. Because of that...
