The Symbol of Peace, a short documentary film directed by Zev (a.k.a. TimberClipse) will share the inspiring stories and dreams of the people who love the peace sign, and who have created their own peace signs to display on their homes and businesses and parks.

We'll balance the presentation with comments from individuals who have different views of the symbol.
We think these stories will help us focus once more on the dream of peace.
Ken Kolsbun, the author of Peace: The Biography of a Symbol (published by National Geographic) has graciously offered to lend his perspective on the peace sign's history; and creators and owners of peace signs are already eager to share their stories with us.

Peace is a universal message, and by that we also mean it can be shown through art. Because of that, today I am happy to announce the Symbol of Peace Contest for deviantART!

We invite you to create a peace sign in your art medium, and send it to us! The winners of the contest will have the opportunity to have their work shown in the Symbol of Peace film, which will be entered into film festivals across the country.

We are looking for something new, something of your own style!

The rules of this contest are very important. Please read thoroughly!

Submissions must be 1280x720 pixels or larger
You must be willing to have your artwork on display in a film to submit to this contest
  Submissions must be .png, .jpg or Literature Submission (exceptions may be made. Please contact TimberClipse if you have questions)
Literature submissions must be 40 words or less (They have to be able to fit in the film!)
The work must be ENTIRELY YOURS. Failure to do so will result in immediate disqualification of all your art.
_{The peace sign is in the Open Domain. This means that the basic peace sign shape is not copyrighted.}
Submissions must follow submission procedure below.
You must be 13 or older to participate.
Enter as many times as you like, but you may only win once.
Deadline: July 5, 2011 at 11:59:59 PM PDT

Prizes

15 Finalists' peace signs will be displayed in the film with credit given in the film credits (given your permission)

2 Runners up selected from those finalists will win 400 Points and a special feature in the film. You will also be listed specially in the film credits.

1 Grand Prize Winner selected from the finalists will win 800 points, a special feature of their art in the film as well as special credit in the film credits.

Submitting

As the winners of this contest will be displayed in the film, we have to have your permission to display the art in the film. Because of that we need you to follow a tricky submissions procedure… (Note this only applies if you make it to the finals)

To submit, please do the following:

1. Upload your deviation to: browse.deviantart.com/projects…
2. Send a note to TimberClipse with the link or thumb.
3. Entries will then be visible here:  browse.deviantart.com/projects… as well as in the collection here: timberclipse.deviantart.com/fa…
4. Entries must be in BOTH to be eligible.

Once the deadline has been reached we will choose 15 Finalists. These Finalists will be noted and requested to do the following:

Send an email to thesymbolofpeace@gmail.com that has:

• That you give your full permission to have your work displayed in the film
• A full resolution UNWATERMARKED version of your image attached (You MUST do this)
• Your name as you would like it to be displayed in the film credits. (This may be a screen name or real name)

Only those semi-finalists that respond and send the email within 3 days will be eligible to be shown in the film as well as eligible to win the grand prize/runner up prize.
