Artist discussions: #1

Thu Mar 29, 2012, 7:02 AM
Hello everyone,

As I am slowly recovering, I had a chance t think about some stuff I'd like to explore on devisntART. I want to do this through artist discussions... So every now and then, I am going to share a prompt. I invite you all to respond. As an added part, whoever makes a great case (whether for or against) that leads to a large discussion (or if you are part of that discussion, then adds a lot) will be featured with the following prompt.

With technology changing so rapidly, what do you see in the future for artists that use these digital means? What do you want to see? What companies might be part of that?

So go for it! All opinions are welcomed, but you may have to support them ;P

It's good to hear that you are getting better. I think that in the future if photoshop continues to try and corner the market, more people will turn to open source programs such as Gimp and MyPaint. The latter of the two is still quite unheard and is more of a paint program rather than photo-manipulation. Gimp however, can go toe to toe with Photoshop quite easily.

Just peeking in. I wasn't around much during your medical issues, but wanted to know I was thinking of you and hope you're on the mend.

I am not sure of the future, but my hope is that there is more affordable competition. I just don't feel it's right that Photoshop has the corner of the market on digital art. I know there are other players, and we have free options like GIMP. But the bottom line is that employers want PS and it puts those who don't have access to it at a very bad disadvantage professional-wise.

I definitely agree. Products like photoshop cost a lot, I definitely would be interested in a cheaper future as well.

Thank you for your kind words <3
