Every Monday, I will be featuring a single deviant's artwork. The deviant may be known or unknown, and may have received accolades or joined deviantART last week. By featuring just a single deviant, I hope to give the deviant some exposure and bring a little beauty to your week. I also include a short description about the artist and/or what draws me to their work.

DominikKucera

Dominik Kučera | Website

Show by DominikKucera

I was introduced to DominikKucera when she was featured by 3wyl recently. This is such an incredible idea and the execution is flawless. It made my mouth drop when I first saw it.

Samuela by DominikKucera

Their entire gallery is filled with beautiful, incredibly deep pieces that always seem to have a story that is much deeper than what first meets the eye.

Fight by DominikKucera

The use of shadows, darkness, and light in all of these pieces is amazing as well. It's what I absolutely love about DominikKucera's work.

Mishkina

Inga Medvedeva | Facebook

Blue light by Mishkina

I was introduced to Mishkina when she was featured by DistortedSmile last week. I was intrigued by the style that was used, a very simple, but at the same time complex lighting source with a wonderful model. The use of such low light and such a slim depth of field made this piece incredibly interesting.

#2 by Mishkina

However, it was not just this one piece that drew me to love Mishkina's work. This next piece had so much power, so much depth, and yet again, was so simple. The eyes in this piece are so prevalent, and really just so powerful.

Behind Blue Eyes by Mishkina

This final piece really just sealed the deal for me. The use of such strong colors in the subject's eyes, skin, and the red around her makes this piece one of my favorites. Be sure to check out Mishkina's work.

Freckles by Tvirinum

Tvirinum was a new artist for me when I first saw "Freckles" featured by Kaz-D. The piece was instantly stunning and instantly was classified in my mind as one of my all-time-favorite photographs. The use of lighting and the eyes just popped perfectly. Although the idea is simple, the execution was truly marvelous.

Vampire neck corset back by Tvirinum

Upon taking a look at the rest of Lina's gallery, I was surprised to see the variety of work that she had been a part of. There's a little something for just about everyone, and it's all done wonderfully!

Week 44, 2014 at #deviant365

Mon Nov 3, 2014, 3:32 PM
Last week, we asked you to tell us about your favorite song! TheOtherKilroy was randomly selected to win a three-month premium
membership! :squee:

This week, we have hit November. Many deviants and many individuals across the globe take advantage of #NoShaveNovember an event that encourages men to not shave for all of November as a way to raise awareness for cancer.

The goal of No-Shave November is to grow awareness by embracing our hair, which many cancer patients lose, and letting it grow wild and free.  Donate the money you usually spend on shaving and grooming for a month to educate about cancer prevention, save lives, and aid those fighting the battle.

So this week, we want to see your hair! Help raise awareness and win some cool stuff while you do it by posting a photo, drawing, story, or any other form of art that involves any form of hair! Mustache? Beard? Ginger hair?  Let's see it!

You are welcome to help raise awareness in any way that is respectful to this campaign and those that it helps, and simply link or thumbnail the image in a comment below.

Bullet; Blue Comment below with deviations that have hair in them!
Bullet; Blue All entries must be submitted by Thursday, November 6, 2014 at 11:59:59pm PDT
Bullet; Blue One deviant will be randomly selected to win a 3 month premium membership!

(Bonus points to anyone of any gender that isn't shaving in November!)

Week 41, 2014 at #deviant365

Mon Oct 13, 2014, 7:28 PM
Last week, we asked you to talk about space. Congratulations to taibossigai and Baelfin who both entered. They have won a 3-month premium membership!

This week, we invite you to take a moment and talk about movies. Show us your favorite movie-related art, tell us about your favorite scene, or write a review of a movie! Just tell us about a movie you like in some way or another, and you will have entered!

Feel free to discuss among each other about these films! In Inception, what actually happened at the end? Have fun! This is a free-for-all week!

Bullet; Purple Show us or tell us about a movie you like! :vaderfanboy:
Bullet; Purple Please submit all entries on Thursday, October 16th,  at 11:59:59pm PT.

Sparkle of Life by SauliusPhotography

I was introduced to SauliusPhotography when Mrs-Durden featured one of their deviations (seen below) with a Daily Deviation. The piece was really interesting to me as it was so natural. Unlike many photos like it, I didn't feel that it was staged. It felt like a single moment was being captured.

Water breath by SauliusPhotography

This is the style that I see in all of SauliusPhotography's pieces and it really is wonderful to me. In addition, the use of lighting and flares I also find very interesting. Again, I see pieces that aren't boring, they are fun because of how much they are willing to play with different styles.

You'll want to check out all of SauliusPhotography's pieces. You might just find a new deviant to watch!

In addition to the realistic pieces, there are some wonderful concept pieces such as this one. Again we see wonderful lighting, colors, and details in this piece.

Lastly, this piece really struck (heh...) me. This piece for me is one of the finest in aerroscape's gallery as it has such a high complexity throughout the image. From win to a storm, everything is absolutely beautiful.

Project Educate Gallery: Film + Animation [2]

Who Are The Film & Animation Volunteers?

The film and animation galleries, which we introduced earlier today, are currently run by two community volunteers. kingmancheng who started working with the community in late September of 2011, and TimberClipse who began in November of 2012. kingmancheng is now a mentor for the film & animation galleries and also works as a freelance illustrator and animator. TimberClipse works in the film industry mostly with the camera department and has directed a couple of films of his own.

Together, the two of us work side-by-side to bring activity, daily deviations, and features to the Film & Animation galleries. Every Daily Deviation that is selected, is agreed by both volunteers working in tandem.

What Do We Look For In Daily Deviations?

Daily Deviations are tricky to choose We look for quality within a deviation, not only by itself, but also against other deviations similar to it, other deviations the filmmaker has created. We look at the use of visual elements, audible elements, and editing approaches. All of these factors make up what we look for in DDs.

What Qualifies Films For Daily Deviations?

We have a few things that qualify films for Daily Deviations.

  1. To start off, we have some rules that are set for all galleries. For example, we cannot feature a deviant more than once every 6 months. For a full list of these rules, please take a look at our guidelines.
  2. For films in particular, what qualifies them is their quality in all aspects of the film or animation and how everything works together.
    1. Story - We look for strong, compelling, and new stories.
    2. Acting - Fun, entertaining, and captivating acting is great
    3. Editing - Editing should be clean, exact, and bring the story together
    4. Animation - Animation styles that are unique or realistic are especially amazing
    5. Music - Pieces that match the film or animation and add to the emotion that is felt
  3. We want to feature something that is special, something that every artist strives for. We look for items that include new styles, ideas, and hard work put in by the filmmaker(s) or animator(s).

What Is The Film & Animation Gallery For?

The film and animation gallery is created for filmmakers and animators of all varieties, skill sets, and experience levels. We are a home and community that supports all types of films and animations. We do not accept flash animations, however, they can be placed in the Flash Gallery.

Films that are submitted to deviantART should be a piece of art. To us, that means that films should be strong in their components based on their category. For example, a short fiction film should have a strong story, characters, music (if applicable) and editing while a 30-second commercial should be an excellent sell for the company, group, project, or whatever the film was created for.

We aren’t looking for home videos or pieces that are made without an artistic component to the film. We also will not accept any content that is pornographic, further definitions of what this content is available in the FAQ.

The Film & Animation gallery is a fantastic place to share your work, but it also is one of only a few real communities for filmmakers. We hope to continue to grow the community, and we would love your help being part of that!

An extremely well known and much loved deviant, `Krissi001 is best known for her efforts at making emoticons become a key part to everyone's deviantART experience. Always showing a huge amount of community spirit, `Krissi001 has been instrumental in making #TheEmoteAwards into a fantastic initiative. It's with much OMG! Week 33, 2014 at #deviant365

Mon Aug 11, 2014, 12:00 AM
Last week, we asked you to show us your improvement. We saw some incredible improvement from deviants, and we are so glad to hear that deviantART has helped so many grow as deviants.

barananduen told us about finding her own manga style:
FINDING MY OWN "MANGA" STYLE: When I joined DA back in 2004, I wanted to learn how to draw in manga style, because I'd been watching Wolf's Rain on TV and fallen in love with that type of stylization, especially the way they did eyes. I started trying to do their style to see what it was about (see first thumbnail), but once I'd done a couple, I wanted to then develop my own type of manga style. I didn't want a completely traditional manga style with the  pointy chins, and I also wanted something even less simplified in the way men's eyes are drawn (even though I still loved how they looked, I wanted something else for my own). I wanted something that was more a combination of eastern, western, and not overly cartoony, but not 100% realistic either.

deviantART has changed me, both as an artist and as a person. I am stronger, more artistic, and a better person because of my experiences, conversations, and experiences I have had here.

My friends, no... My family on deviantART have become much more than usernames. They have become a part of me, and I a part of their lives. And it grows more and more each day

Lastly, deviantART is my story. The deviants are what make this story amazing. From young to old, all across the world, we are the story. We are deviantART.

Chapel by AlexShatohin

I was recently introduced to the work of AlexShatohin which was absolutely stunning to me. These lifelike creations are beautiful with great care taken in every minute detail that they present.

Seeing the creation process as well as the different concepts that AlexShatohin has is truly incredible to enjoy. This creation process is not a quick one and certainly not when it is completed with such care and love.

The work with shadows is especially impressive. As many artists know in many mediums, shadows often present to be very difficult to create perfectly. I hope you will enjoy these pieces and the others that AlexShatohin has created.
