Why you feature stolen work?!?!Lately there seem to have been a few myths flying around in particular with regards to how we as Community Volunteers, give Daily Deviations. Many people seem to think that we sit at our desks in dark little rooms and let out evil laughter whilst we purposefully feature stolen work. The dark rooms and laughter - well I can't say yes or no on that one! But I can promise you it's not our intent to give exposure to people who have stolen work. I recently featured a piece of work that turned out to be stolen. However I went into extensive conversations with the artist before I featured it, and with added metadata and dates, it's difficult to know where to draw the line. I've given people the benefit of the doubt before - and it's worked out nicely as their work has been legitimate. Below are some comments I have seen being thrown around the past few days - and hopefully an attempt to bust the myth.

I kid. But... daily, I am bombarded with awesome suggestions (which I love) and I'm not complaining about. But there has to be a criteria of sorts, that sets an image above the rest. Here are a few things I look for that you might not have noticed before... The first thing I look at when I stumble across an image or view a suggestion from somebody, is how the artist has presented their work to the deviantART Community.

Your image isn't everything. Not anymore. In the past I have given Daily Deviations to pieces with titles that are a combination of random letters and numbers, or that are very obviously still the source file title - or that tends to be just a keyboard mash-up. How to: Make thumbs big in features?I get this asked a lot!
Back when they introduced sta.sh, I didn't really use it. Because it seemed hard to get used to. I always wrote my articles in the old way.
Then I toyed with it a little and noticed that is is something really awesome!
Not to mention that the only way to make articles and journals is through Sta.sh Writer.
So I assume not so many if you know that there is a way to make thumbs big!
That is actually pretty easy. All you have to do is add big in front of a thumb code!

It's a tough topic and one that most of us like to shy away from rather than embrace, but the honest truth is that the shots of people that you get - the best kind - are the ones that are candid, journalistic or spontaneous. That usually means asking permission afterwards, or not asking permission at all - which can appear quite odd, to some. One of my biggest concerns and anxieties is having my camera out in public. I recently went to a beach, of all places, and was shooting the coastline when a horrible feeling crept over me and I realised that there were lots of people around and that I was invading, a little bit, on their privacy. These guidelines are useful for shooting on the street, at public gatherings and events and at more formal occasions such as weddings.

I know I will be slapped into the nine depths of hell by the users here, but I think 9/11 is also a time for us to reconsider our OWN actions.

No, the attacks are in no way justified. No matter how much the US harmed your country, there is no excuse for killing innocent citizens. But one must realize that we MUST have done SOMETHING to spur this action, something which drove parts of the Middle East to desperate measures. We have poked the tiger in the cave, and now it has turned around to attack us.

What the Taliban has done is wrong and they retaliated by giving us a terrible tragedy, but that does not mean we are completely innocent either. We need to find ways to fix the relationship with Afghanistan, etc. and waging a war which further destroys their once thriving economy (like we did in Iraq) only creates more hatred between us.

Yes, what you said is mostly TRUE. However, USA (not everybody) didn't care and took the lives of other MILLION AND A HALF innocent people.
They complain about the people who did the 9/11 attacks (who really did it), and they reduce themselves (not everyboy, again) to a worse level. It doesn't matter who started the conflict.

If they wanted revenge, they should've find the people who did that and have their revenge. Not cowardly destroy half the country were those people probably weren't at.

I'm really sorry for all the innocent lives that were lost on both sides, both directly and indirectly. I hope that something like that doesn't ever happen again.
That day really scared me, and made me feel horrible. Humanity may be wonderful at some point, but things like that really make me wish the whole mankind died that day.

Every year, I dread waking up on this day to know that so many families over the nation must feel such a sense of terrible loss. When I think of all the husbands, wives, children, parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, who were lost that day due to the actions of some truly evil people, I just want to curl up somewhere and die. I know that what happened that day can never be undone. I know that the people who were affected will carry their pain with them for the rest of their lives. Even those who did not lose someone, even those who were completely uninvolved, still lost a little bit of something that day. Maybe they lost their sense of safety and security, or their ability to trust others... anything, really. I can only hope that the recognition and respect everyone in the nation pays to the lost loved ones on this day helps to mitigate the loss of everyone affected.

Everyone who was lost that day will live on forever in the hearts and minds of the world. I was so grateful to see comments from faraway deviants who mourn their loss as well. We as a world will keep their memory alive.

Everyday, families all across the nation feel the loss, but it is only on ONE day that the whole world remembers especially clearly and mourns WITH them.
