(UPDATE 1/19) Mini ContestHey, everyone!

I will be running a Mini Contest during this month.  I've been wanting to hold one for a while now, and with the Complaints Challenge going on, I thought now would be the perfect time.
My biggest complaint about deviantART has been that it is really difficult to break into the literature community when you're a new writer.  So I thought it would be interesting to hold a small contest specifically for folks who are fairly new to deviantART!  The goal of this contest will be to expose new writers to the community and try to bring them some attention.
RULES
The theme will be Resolution.  You may interpret the theme however you wish.

Contest entries must be submitted by the end of January 31st, 2012. You will submit your entry by sending me a link or thumb of your piece.

This will be a literature only contest. However, any type of literature will be accepted.

Critique Contest: ALL Mediums!About
In my opinion, critique is commentary on art or literature aimed at giving direction for improvement, encouraging artistic growth, and promoting education. These three elements are vitally important to any artist, in any medium because they provide a cornerstone for advancement.
On deviantART, we see entire communities dedicated exclusively to giving and receiving critique because artists of all levels understand the benefits of critique. February's Solutions Sanctuary project is focused on critique because many, many people complain that there just is not enough of it on dA. Well, time to put your keyboards where your mouths are, my fellow deviants!
For this contest, I challenge you to give at least one other deviant a critique. You may use the critique feature or leave critiques in comments. You may critique work from a group, from your watchlist, from the

Script Frenzy and NaPoWriMo

Day 1 has become! Why not join in the fun of today and post something Cat themed? Cat poems will help save Fella and perhaps your script could feature the appearance or mention of a cat?

What is Script Frenzy?
Script Frenzy (also known as “Screnzy”) is run by the “Office of Letters and Light”, the same organisation that runs NaNoWriMo in November for prose writers. The challenge is to write 100 pages of a script. The script can take any form of media, whether TV, Film, comic or Theatre.
This is a great opportunity for those who have perhaps always wanted to write

Update: Fair Exposure and Popular Browse

Fair Exposure and miscategorization
On January 24th, 2012, we released an #hq journal regarding Popular results for Browse. In this journal, we described Fair Exposure -- deviantART's algorithm for Popular browse results. Fair Exposure's goal is to showcase the most popular deviations in a variety of styles, genres, and art forms, without bias towards a particular topic.
Since the release of our Fair Exposure announcement, especially in the last handful of weeks, we've noticed a concerted, dedicated effort made by deviants, or groups of deviants, to specifically beat (or "game") the system. Deviations have been intentionally miscategorized in hopes of having them appear "higher" in Popular results. This has, rightfully so, resulted in complaints from deviants who submit to deviantART in a fair and honest manner.
