This Photograph is Dedicated to `PurpelBlur, a wonderful friend, amazing deviant, and overall someone I could not live without on dA.
I took this photograph as part of an assignment for class, we were told to make a photo essay, and I decided to do the life of a match, I wanted to play with lighting.
It is lit from the flame and from a bounce on the left hand side (out of frame) that is reflecting 1/2 the light of a lamp onto the subject to create a gradient of light from left to right.
This was a capture that took a number of matches to get right, but worked perfectly in the end.
I'd suggest experimenting with faster shutter speed. That would reduce the motion blur, improve the clarity of the flame (which is overexposed) and improve the atmosphere of the overall shot IMO...
