Breast Cancer Awareness Clouds by TimberClipse Breast Cancer Awareness Clouds by TimberClipse

Photograph Taken by myself, =TimberClipse

Category: Photography

Best Viewed Small at first to allow you to see entire image.

PLEASE NOTE: The Ribbon was NOT made by the airplanes. For 2 hours surrounding this image no planes were flying with smoke on board!

I took this photo today while out on a photo shoot, and thought it was so cool that the Breast Cancer Awareness (ref: [link]) Ribbon seemed to appear in the sky.

The photo was not set up.

This photo is edited but only with slight color/sepia tones added. Otherwise it has remained the same. There was no photo shopping to make the clouds look like this, it is how they were naturally found and photographed.

I decided to upload this to the Think Pink V contest. I do realize that it is not "pink" per say, but I feel that the message is the same as anything that could be in pink.

Thank you for taking a look.

Best,

=TimberClipse

Wow, so amazing. You are so lucky to capture such a shot. You are right, you have to view the smaller version first to see the entire picture. The good things are of course the sky, it looks wonderful, of course also a bit because of the formation of the clouds. I really like this bit of orange/sepia color on the clouds. It adds a little extra touch to the picture. What I don't like is this orange/sepia tone on the rest of the picture. It makes it look a bit odd and it also makes it look darker. I guess the picture would look even better if the grass, trees, planes, ... would have their natural color.

This is a very good shot. The right person to spot the right moment. The clods are very good and the sky tones are also pleasant. It is a perfect submission to the contest because of its originality. I don't think anyone else would have anything close to this. I also like the ground very much, forest, trees the autumn colours are so captivating, the low pleasant shades are very relaxing. The only thing that bothers me about this are the planes. A singular plane on the side or no plane at all would have been best since, at least in my case it took my eyes from the sky. However I do not recommend cropping since I love the nature colours. All in all this is a great work original and with a bright idea behind it. And because of the positive cause it will have an impact.

I've seen clouds that form like these before, so this is truly a magical moment that you caught it with a beautiful photo! I enjoy the sepia colors you put in, makes everything seem more warm. :3
Well done!

I didn't even realize it looked like the ribbon until I saw the title :slow: I was about to ask if the planes did it too, since it is coincidental that such a perfect logo formed above an area where there's a lot of them resting on the ground ;) But I believe you since I've seen all kinds of weird cloud formations :O

easily my favorite piece in your gallery. I think you made a good call with the sepia tones. I love that red airplane in the corner, I don't think this piece would be as interesting without it, just that little bit of colour is so intriguing!

No planes with smoke on board were flying. That is correct.

I don't quite know what to make of the foreground. Its colours are a cross between unnatural and edgy; like they can't really decide which way to go. ^^; The airplanes do take away from the magnificence of the photo, because they imply that an airshow has just finished and the ribbon was intentional. As for the colour editing, the sepia tones make the photograph look old, as if it were a cherished memory of a one-in-a-million cloud formation. However, the sepia also makes the clouds appear yellowed, which isn't too great. So, I'm guessing you can go three ways: a) Stick with the sepia and the antique feel, b) Make the colours really vivid, to show off the contrast between blue sky and white clouds, or c) something else I haven't thought of :D. Just one thing I'd like to mention though; I don't think it's fair to restrict the meaning of the photo to just breast cancer. Ribbons represent awareness for many different things. I'd put "Awareness Clouds" as the title, and "What are you fighting? Who are you fighting for?" in the Artist's Comments. My personal opinion. Just felt like getting it out there. Great shot, you're one lucky photographer. :D

The funny thing, is that the planes that are shown (and I am adding this to the description atm). is that most of these planes can barely fly. They were very old.

In addition, the formation was not actually made at ALL on purpose lol :D

Oh, yes, I know. I read the Artist's Comments. My point is, that for anyone not reading your comments, it seems like it was intentional.

This is such a lovely picture! It's very intriguing how the smoke or clouds (I'm not sure which) makes the breast cancer awareness symbol, and great that you spotted it! You have a good eye :) I'm also really loving the colors and tones you added - it gives almost a gentle, rustic sort of feel that works very well. It's easy on the eyes but still pleasing to look at, without distracting from the picture's message.

The only thing I would say is that I personally find the planes a little distracting. In my opinion, the one on the left is fine because it has a nice color that works well, but the ones on the right are sort of bothersome to me. I don't recommend cropping them out since then you'd lose some of the nice forest behind. I don't know if you use Photoshop or GIMP or what, but if you use GIMP, I know a fantastic tutorial for getting rid of stuff in photos you don't want, so message/note me if you're interested. (Of course, you may already know how to do this on whatever program you use. :) )

I hope this critique was helpful! I really think this is a lovely picture.

I would love to hear about removing them if you can tell me, although I would be unlikely to use it a lot. I dislike using PS/Gimp for much other than color correction >.<

But might be worth a shot :)

Thanks for your help :thanks:

This is the most interesting pic from the five thumbs you posted. :) It's the ribbon like cloud formation that grabs the attention. I've never seen a sky like this in my life...
Not sure about the foreground here though. It's just a field of grass with 2 tails of planes. Would be better for the composition to see a whole plane here. Now all these bits look a bit messy to me. Not really a fan of the colour editing here, but that's what scores nowadays. I think the bright and fresh colours of the grass would make this shot more 'alive'. ;)

Hey ~brammoolenaar

Thanks for your suggestions! I agree, the foreground is a little boring. This was really an on the spot shot and the formation in the sky lasted only a minute or so more, so I didn't get a chance to play around a lot.

That said, I will try to take that into consideration in the future, so thank you!

Really beautiful pick! I love the sky, clouds are so nice shape and lovely pink. This is a really symbolic pick, behalf a goog thing. It's really nice that airplanes also shows in this pick, that gives a last great expression=)

It's a fun idea for the contest, at least something different! I agree with little billie; the sepia doesn't suit the photo. Makes the red of the aeroplanes pop out too bright.

Yeah, I actually considered cutting them out and cropping it, but then the image just looks lopsided and really odd...

In the future I need to try to focus more on the sky though :)

Did you use high shutter speed, because the trees' outlines are freakingly sharp! Cool effect, really draws your attention to the sky!

This turned out really great, nice capture!
If you wanted to make the cloud pink, with some slight hue / highlights adjustment you could do that :) Of course then it changes from photography to photo manipulation!
